The main theme in the paintings by Gé-Karel van der Sterren (Stadskanaal 1969) is consumerism and the prevalent hedonism of today's globalised society. Without expressing a judgment, he wants to show the reverse side of it; through exuberant use of colour, a good dose of (black) humour and unmistakable baroque influences.
