During Amsterdam Art Week 2025, KERSGALLERY proudly presents Beyond Boundaries: Four Voices in Contemporary Art, featuring the works of Lotte Wieringa, Marc Mulders, Taqwa Ali, and Ayo. This exhibition brings together four diverse and innovative artists, each pushing the limits of contemporary art through unique approaches and perspectives.

About the Artists

Lotte Wieringa

Lotte Wieringa explores memory and the physical traces that time leaves on materials and bodies. Her introspective works balance between abstraction and figuration, using subtle color nuances and a tactile approach. Her art reflects the interconnectedness of mind, body, spirit, and nature, resulting in powerful yet poetic compositions.

Her work has been exhibited internationally in New York, Miami, Germany, and Poland, and she has been nominated multiple times for the Dutch Royal Award for Painting. Recently, she completed a residency at La Brea Artist Residency in Los Angeles and held a solo exhibition at Kunsthalle Emden.

Marc Mulders

Marc Mulders (Tilburg, 1958) is a renowned Dutch painter, photographer, and stained-glass artist. His works are often compared to gardens—abundant with color and light. He paints in an open stable, situated between darkness and the natural beauty of surrounding flower meadows.

In his early career, Mulders’ works featured darker tones, often depicting religious themes and still lifes. A major shift occurred in 2008 when he relocated to a farm, where the surrounding landscape transformed his palette into lighter, more abstract representations of flowers and light.

His work is included in major collections, including the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam, the Stedelijk Museum, and Museum Jan van der Togt, and he has exhibited at institutions such as Singer Laren and Museum de Fundatie.

Taqwa Ali

Winner of the 2025 Royal Award for Modern Painting, Taqwa Ali delves into themes of identity, migration, and heritage. Her work is characterized by a refined painting technique and a layered visual language, constructing narratives that explore cultural history and personal memory.

Ayo

Ayo, a Rijksakademie artist, is a Ugandan-born, Rotterdam-based multidisciplinary artist whose work engages with oral history, intangible heritage, and craft traditions. By treating people as archives, she constructs multi-media constellations that include sculpture, film, sound, and performance.

Her recent projects focus on obsolete Indigenous objects, reimagining them as cultural carriers of belonging and history. Additionally, she explores the power of non-linguistic sounds as a form of deep connection beyond language. Her work has been exhibited at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and Art Rotterdam.

The Exhibition

Beyond Boundaries offers a powerful dialogue between these four artists, each contributing their distinct voices to the evolving landscape of contemporary art. Through painting, sculpture, multimedia, and conceptual practice, the exhibition presents art that challenges, reflects, and redefines boundaries.
